Start with the decision, not the stuff

When throwing things away feels close to impossible, sorting is not the bottleneck — deciding is. Any method that begins with 'sort everything into piles' will stall.

Use a holding box: things you cannot decide on go in, dated. If it is unopened in six months, it goes without being opened. That removes the decision you are stuck on rather than demanding you make it faster.
